Project Overview:

CatchMark was asked by a customer to provide a secure and electronic door access control system for their dairy farm. The location has many different buildings and offices that are spread across a large area. Managing physical keys along with the time and effort it was taking to verify the doors were secure had become overwhelming. CatchMark provided a solution that allowed the doors to be controlled via access control. Employees were given key fobs that granted access to the doors required during the allowed times. The solution included the ability to see logs of who entered each door, schedule doors to remain unlocked during identified time frames, and the ability to remove access with a single click if an employee were to leave the company or lose their key fob.

Project Duration

The project planning and execution of this project was spread over several months. The customer was flexible with the installation date which was helpful to CatchMark as the lead time on hardware was several weeks. It also allowed CatchMark to wrap up a few other projects so as many resources as possible could be dedicated to this project. The total time spent on the project was just over 200 hours and that was over two weeks by six members of our team.

Project Challenges

The customer’s dairy farm is located about three hours from our office. Coordination of all resources for a job of this size took some extra planning. We try to not keep our team away from home overnight but for this project it was necessary. Planning far enough out to allow for everyone to make the necessary plans at home and with other customers was done. The work was done in September, so the weather being as hot as it was presented some challenges. There were some challenges with doors not being square which required us to make some unplanned adjustments.

Results

The project was completed, exceeding the customer’s expectations. There were a couple of change orders throughout the project to address the challenges we faced, but those were communicated to the customer as they were discovered. Upon completion, the customer began speaking with us about future projects to build on what had been completed.
