When I was a child, my parents told me not to believe everything I saw on television. I clearly didn’t listen, look no further than me jumping out of a car going 25 mph when I was 15. Yes, true story and if MacGyver could do it so could I! That’s a story for another time let’s get back on topic. With advancements in technology, information is always at our fingertips but not all of it is accurate. How do you know what sites to believe? What is true and what is false? I don’t have all of the answers but I am going to address five common myths to put your mind at ease.
#1 – My business is too small to be hacked.
Hackers do not care! They will take whatever they can and do as much harm as possible regardless of the size of your business. 60% of small to medium businesses experienced a cyberattack in 2022, and 43% of all attacks are targeted at small businesses.
#2 – Deleted items are gone forever!
Before you upload that pic or video remember…once it is online it is always online! However, if you happen to delete something that you want back, we can likely help. We have recovered valuable emails and documents for many customers who thought they were gone forever. Even after you delete something, there are traces of it left on your computer. A good tech company can help you recover it in most cases. This is also important to remember when posting to social media and then deleting a post or comment. #3 – The more bars the better my service.
More doesn’t always mean better. I would rather have five $100 bills than 100 $1 bills. The bars you see on your mobile phone indicate the signal strength, not the signal quality. If you are in a location with many others and everyone is connected to the wireless network, the signal strength could be great but the quality could be degraded because of the number of users. We do hear more about Windows computers being hacked, but that is because there are so many more Windows computers in the business world than Mac devices.
